From Hannover Airport
The nearest airport is Hannover Airport (HAJ) in Hannover-Langenhagen, north of Hannover city, approximately 20-25 km from the Institute. Among others, HAJ has direct flight connections to Amsterdam, Barcelona, Frankfurt, London-Heathrow, Munich, Paris-CDG, and Zurich.
By taxi/Uber
The taxi ride from the airport to the Institute (Callinstr. 38) or to Werkhof Hotel (Kniestr. 33) takes around 25 minutes and costs approximately 37 EUR. Uber also works well in Hannover.
By suburban train (“S-Bahn”)
There is a suburban train (“S-Bahn” line S5, direction Emmerthal/Paderborn) that runs from Hannover Airport to the city centre. The journey takes about 15 minutes. The S-Bahn station is located directly beneath Terminal C. You can plan your trip and purchase tickets using the ÜSTRA app, available in both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, with payment options such as PayPal or Apple Pay. Tickets can also be bought at vending machines. A single ticket (“Einzelkarte”, zones A+B) from the airport to the city centre costs 4.50 EUR. If you want to travel to the Werkhof Hotel or our Institute, get off at “Hannover Bahnhof Nordstadt” (the 5th stop). From there, it is about a 10-minute walk to the hotel or an 18-minute walk to the Institute. (If your destination is the city centre, stay on the train for one more stop and get off at Hannover Hauptbahnhof.)
From Hannover Central Station

By tram (“U-Bahn”)
From Hannover Central Station (“Hauptbahnhof”), walk along Bahnhofstraße to the “Kröpcke” tram station (located beneath Kröpcke Square; approx. 300 m, about 4 minutes). Take tram number 4 (direction “Garbsen”) or number 5 (direction “Stöcken”) and get off at “Schneiderberg/Wilhelm-Busch-Museum” (the 4th stop). From there, it is about a 10-minute walk to the hotel or the Institute. You can plan your journey and purchase tickets using the ÜSTRA app, available in both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, with payment options such as PayPal or Apple Pay. Tickets are also available at vending machines. A single ticket (“Einzelkarte”, Zone A) from the central station to Schneiderberg costs 3.60 EUR. A 24-hour ticket (“Tageskarte”, Zone A) costs 7.20 EUR. Trams run every few minutes Monday to Friday, and slightly less frequently on weekends and at night.
By car
Take the A2 highway exit “Hannover-Herrenhausen” and follow the signs to “Zentrum”. Continue along the B6 and take the exit for “Herrenhausen”. Turn right onto Herrenhäuser Straße, pass the Great Garden (“Herrenhäuser Gärten”), and then turn right into Nienburger Straße. The second street on the left is Callinstraße.
